Give your boss a good reason
People don’t think about asking for a raise during uncertain times. Even when mustering the courage, some timidly ask — mentioning cost-of-living increases or some other hardship. It’s not surprising they are turned down because they haven’t given their boss an overwhelming reason or reasons to approve one.
Don’t assume your company is going through hardship, either. In “Prospering in the pandemic: winners and losers of the Covid era,” the Financial Times featured 100 companies making more money now. Your company may be doing better than you thought.
